Marienplatz or St. Mary's Square is the focal point of the city of Munich. It has been the city's main square since 1158. Back in the Middle Ages, the square used to be a market place as well as the site where tournaments and festivities took place. It's very interesting to know the history behind the square. I found out that it was actually renamed Marienplatz as a way to ask Virgin Mary to protect the town from a cholera epidemic.. . If you happen to visit Munich, Germany, make sure to check out the New Town Hall, Old Town Hall, the Column of St. Mary and the Glockenspiel at Marienplatz Square. The pedestrian zone between Karlsplatz and Marienplatz is no doubt a crowded area with numerous shops and restaurants. #marienplatz #marienplatzsquare #stmarysquare #munich #germany #europe #travel #diasfamilyadventures #throwback #tbt A post shared by Dhemz Apdian - Dias (@mrsd2083) on Sep 14, 2017 at 10:28am PDT
