The Brighter Way to Save Energy with Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation | #BBYConnectedHome

Yay, winter is right around the corner! Actually, I'm not too excited about it because winter weather will take more energy and heating bill will go high. Let’s face it, we all want to keep our utility bills lower. As the temperatures slightly going down we should start searching for ways to whittle down those heating costs instead of getting stressed out.

I found out that one of the best ways to save on heating bills this coming winter and continue to save year round is by installing a programmable thermostat. So why not consider investing in a programmable thermostat like the innovative Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation.

This is the new 3rd generation version, which is thinner, sleeker in design, and allows for a bigger, crisper display than the prior 2nd generation version. This products enables you to balance the temperature in your home with the Smart thermostat that senses your activity, learns your preferences and can be adjusted from your smartphone, tablet or laptop.

I really loved this product! It's super easy to install and manage. There is no need to set preferences – within a week, the Nest learning thermostat starts programming itself. It learns your habits and adjusts automatically, regulating your home’s temperature based on your schedule – which can save you energy and money. When you're not at home (the “Away” mode), it will automatically switch to an energy-efficient temperature. The Nest saved an average of 10-12% on heating and 15% on cooling bills.
One of the features that I'm impressed with is that this thermostat provides our energy usage, tracking how much we've used and provides tips that will help us conserve. It provides alerts and reminders for peace of mind: it monitors our heating/cooling equipment, and tells us if anything is not working correctly. Plus, we will be alerted if our home's temperature setting goes above or below limits. Now that's SMART!

To get the most out of your Nest, you should connect to your existing home’s Wi Fi network and download the free app from iTunes or GooglePlay. If you need great Wi-Fi range, you might want to purchase the NETGEAR - Nighthawk DST AC1900 Wireless-AC Gigabit Router with DST Adapter with Geek Squad included. It has better compatibility, high performance and awesome network.

These products are available at Best Buy. Best Buy makes it easy with this new high performance Wi-Fi router, which includes a Wi-Fi extender and Geek Squad Set Up and Support via phone & web, for one full year. The Geek Squad service via phone & web allows customers to call or get help 24/7 whenever they want, vs. the need to schedule an appointment.

Disclosure: The reviewer has been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free.

I think a programable thermostat sounds like a great investment. You only need to heat your home while someone is in it, so programming it too start heating your home a half hour before you get home for the day can probably save a lot of energy. Not to mention your home retains heat during the day as long as there are proper seals. This is definitely a good idea!

I am SO jealous you got a NEST! We are dying to get one for the house we jut bought, but need to save up for it. With a 1968 house that is insulated so well, this system would just top us off at the perfect winter home in New England!

I use a programmable thermostat to keep our summer cooling temperatures bearable. In the winter we don't use much heat. But this is the desert southwest and things here are backwards!!
