National Mobility Awareness Month

This post brought to you by NMEDA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Persons with disabilities, particularly those with problems with mobility, should be given as much freedom as everyone else when it comes to having the means to go to different places. There are non-profit trade associations such as NMEDA that are made up of dealers, manufacturers and specialists that provide people with disabilities with the opportunity to drive or be transported in vehicles that have been modified to address their needs. Mobility solutions are available from NMEDA dealers to help those people with disabilities or those with loved ones with mobility problems. People with disabilities can live an active mobile lifestyle through the efforts of NMEDA and other similar associations.

The goal of National Mobility Awareness Month is to educate the public on the following:
• People with disabilities constitute the largest minority group in the United States
• Over 18 million people in the U.S. and Canada have mobility issues• One in five elderly have mobility issues
• You have a 20% chance of becoming disabled at some point in your life if you don’t already have a disability
• There are mobility equipment manufacturers, dealers and driver rehabilitation specialists in your community dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities
• Automotive mobility solutions are available for people with disabilities enabling them to enjoy active, mobile lifestyles

In celebration of The National Mobility Awareness Month or Mobility Awareness Month this May, there will be a campaign in which people will be asked to submit their stories about a local hero in their community, particularly those who are dealing with or are overcoming mobility challenges and those who help raise awareness about the different mobility solutions that are available in their respective communities. These stories will be submitted to different online communities as well as NMEDA’s Facebook page. The public are encouraged to vote for their favorite story on www.mobilityawarenessmonth.com. Three custom Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) will be given away to a local hero in your community.

Entries, be it in a written story or in video form, will be accepted beginning February 25 at www.mobilityawarenessmonth.com and https://www.facebook.coom/NMEDA. Voting will be from March 11 to May 10. Winners will be selected on May 20 and will be formally announced on May 30. For more information, you can visit http://www.nmeda.com and www.mobilityawarenessmonth.com. So what are you waiting for? Submit your entry today!
