Choosing the Right Home Alarm Monitoring Company

As a homeowner, you understand the value of installing a dependable home alarm system to detect if any break-ins or other suspicious activities are taking place at your property. A key element of any home protection plan is a reliable home alarm system monitoring plan. Burglar alarms are essential to providing a level of security in our domestic or commercial premises that will give us complete peace of mind.

You might want to consider finding a company that will quickly notice if there are any issues at your home and alert you and -- if necessary -- the authorities.

Here are a few things to consider as you research potential home alarm monitoring companies:
Wireless Options
Having your alarm monitoring tied to your wired phone line creates a point that burglars can exploit. If the phone line is cut or otherwise disabled, the entire alarm system can go down. In addition, an increasing number of families are doing away with their wired phone lines and switching to VoIP phones or exclusively using their mobile phones.

You can avoid this potential issue by working with a company that offers a cellular backup and other wireless options. With a cellular backup, alarm signals will still be able to be transmitted even if an installed phone line is cut off. In addition, many companies can work to monitor alarms over VoIP or other wireless options.

Around-the-Clock Monitoring
You never know when a problem might happen at your home. A burglar can break into your home in the middle of the night or during the work day when they know everyone at your home is at work or school. In order to be truly protected, you want to make sure that the monitoring company provides their services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Alerting Methods

If there is an alarm that goes off in your home, you want to know about it quickly. Find out from any potential monitoring company what their methods are for alerting both you and the authorities in case of an emergency. The best companies will be able to monitor burglaries along with other situations such as alarms for medical emergencies and unsafe conditions.

False Alarms
Even the best alarm systems can be susceptible to false alarms. You’ll want to try to avoid companies that charge you a fee in case of a false alarm.

When we moved into our house, we just kept the alarm company that the people who owned the house before us were using.

We use the same company that does our cable. The alarm is monitored for fire, and carbon monoxide in addition to break-ins, so that gives us some piece of mind - and it all comes on one bill which simplifies life

We don't have much of anything anyone would want. If they need it that bad, they must be worse off then us! LOL

I can't even begin to tell you how many times we set off the alarm in my childhood home accidentally. I'd definitely be looking for a fee-free false alarm company.

We originally had Protection 1 which doesn't charge a fee. We now have ADT and while we haven't set it off as yet I'm not sure it is fee free.

We live in a relatively low crime area in the UK I've never considered getting an alarm!

These are great tips. We don't have an alarm system and we're seriously considering this. I want a free false alarm company.

What great tips. We will be doing this in our next house. The one we live in now already had a system set up and it's a bit obnoxious! - Jeanine

I would have to find a fee free company because I would be the one to set it off a hundred times on accident. I would never know my code.
