Is Your Home Interior Causing You Stress?

When you get home after a stressful day at work, you should be able to relax and unwind. If you struggle to do this, it could be because of your home’s interior. Are your surroundings adding to your frustrations? Read on to discover some of the things around your home that could be causing you more stress.

Paint color
There has been plenty of research that has shown that colors have a direct impact on our feelings and state of mind. The color palettes you have around your home will have a massive impact on how you feel. There are some colors that will make it virtually impossible for you to relax, and so it is no wonder that you are feeling stressed. Red is a prime example. If you have a lot of red around the home, it is time for a change. Red is a color that physically raises your energy levels and blood pressure. It is associated with passion and can make you feel irritable. You should avoid red in a bedroom, as well as any other rooms where you want to unwind. So, what colors should you include? You can’t go wrong with a neutral color palette. If you want to add some more color to the mix, opt for a light shade of blue. This will make your interior tranquil and peaceful, as blue has a calming effect.
Lighting
Do you rely on harsh overhead lights in your home? If so, this is likely to be the main reason you are unable to relax. In fact, it would be of little surprise if you end up with headaches most evenings. Letting as much natural light into your home as possible is so important. Of course, we are not suggesting that you start knocking walls down. However, by incorporating a large mirror and reflective surfaces into a room, the natural light will bounce off and back into the room, making it appear larger and more welcoming. It is also crucial to invest in different types of lighting. Don’t merely rely on one harsh overhead light. Instead, have numerous lamps in a room, as well as some reading lights. This enables you to create the right atmosphere depending on what you are doing and the time of the day. You could also purchase a dimmer for your light switch.
Clutter
The third and final thing that could be causing you endless amounts of stress in your home is clutter. How are you supposed to unwind when you have everything from dirty dishes to piles of toys to stacks of papers everywhere? Now is the perfect time to banish your clutter once and for all. You will feel much better afterward when you are able to see all of your worktops. Your home will feel cleaner, bigger, and more comfortable. Of course, getting started is often the hard part. The best thing to do is have three bags or boxes – one for the things you will keep, one for the things you will get rid of, and one for the things what would be nice to keep. You should continue going until there is no clutter and everything has a rightful place in your home.
