5 Things to See and Do in Northern Minnesota

Whether you’re a tourist or a local, there are plenty of fun-filled attractions that are scattered across Northern Minnesota to see and enjoy. Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie and fancy exploring the area by helicopter or you want to go camping and fishing in some of the most stunning lakes that the country has to offer, here are just five things to see and do when visiting Northern Minnesota.

Ariel Helicopter Tour

The sky truly is the limit when it comes to attractions to try out in Northern Minnesota. If you fancy exploring the area from above, the 15-mile aerial helicopter tour may be the perfect choice for you. Once in the air, you will be able to take in some of the most breathtaking views of Superior Harbor/Duluth as well as views of the Aerial Lift Bridge. Be aware that flight times may be subject to change depending on weather conditions.

Split Rock Lighthouse State Park

Regarded as one of the most popular spots on the North Shore, the Split Rock Lighthouse State Park is a must see when visiting Northern Minnesota. If stairs are no problem, you can walk down the cliff, finishing off at the beach where you can take in some impressive views of the surrounding shore, including the famous lighthouse.

Tettegouche State Park

Like many of the parks that are situated across the North Shore, there are plenty of amenities that you can try out such as camping, paddling, and fishing at Tettegouche State Park. If you don’t mind walking, there are several hiking trails to glorious lakes and stunning waterfalls. In the winter months, you have the option to go skiing or embarking on snowshoe trails.

Gooseberry Falls State Park

With easy trails and a scenic gorge, it’s no wonder thousands of tourists visit Gooseberry Falls State Park each year. There are various log buildings that you can check out, which were built by the CCC (Civilian Conversation Corps) back in the 1930s. Exhibitions and concessions are held throughout the year, which gives you more of an insight into the park’s origins.

Birch Forest Lodge

Situated on Pelican Lake, Birch Forest Lodge is known as one of the most family-friendly Northern Minnesota resorts. With plenty of fun activities like a swimming beach, a lodge game room, and a playground for the children, the resort has every age group catered for.
