Pests comes in many shapes and sizes and they are described as any living thing that adds inconvenience or danger to our homes.

Pests can be anything from:

  • Flies

  • Beetles

  • Termites

  • Mites

  • Mosquitoes

  • Wasps

  • Moths

  • Bats

  • Bedbugs

  • Fleas

  • Mice

  • Rats

There are so many pests out there that can find refuge in your home and destroy parts of it, and today we want to help you to defend your home against these threats and make your house a hostile environment for these little creatures.

Clean often

The most important thing you can do when you want to avoid pests is to clean the house all the time. Once a week have a deep clean of the home, and once a month consider emptying and bleaching your cupboards. Vacuum the house often to get rid of bugs that could be clinging to the fibres and ensure that there are no food bags or boxes left open for them to get to. Secure your home with cleaning and it will deter pests from trying to make a home there.

Empty the bins

If you always seem to leave the bins until they smell before you get rid of them from your kitchen, you may as well call your local exterminator services now and deal with the problem. Many pests such as flies and bugs love to feed on detritus and this is rife in your bin. To stop flies and other animals from flocking to your bin for a quick meal make sure that you empty the bin every few days to keep it clean and hygienic. Be sure to use a disinfectant powder in the bin when you refill it.

Hide sugar sources

It is so important to avoid pests in your home that you secure and hide any source of sugar in your kitchen. A lot of us are used to having bags of sugar for baking in our kitchen cupboards that are rolled up loosely to seal. The issue here is that this is not a tight seal and pests can easily still access the sugar if they want it. The best way to store things such as sugar is to pour it into a glass jar and seal it completely. No pest will be able to access this and it means that your sugar is safe and your kitchen cupboards will not be compromised.

Clean your cupboards

Speaking of the kitchen cupboards… it is important to bleach them now and again to keep the sticky bits of food away as well as pests. Condiment bottles such as soy sauce or honey can spill from time to time and form a sticky ring in your cupboards and if you don’t clean this it can attract pests. Be sure to avoid this and instead enjoy a pantry that is clean and smells fresh all year long.

Use these simple tips to get rid of pests from your home this year.
