Lapu-Lapu Shrine
The Lapu-Lapu shrine is a 20-meter bronze statue in Punta EngaƱo, Mactan Island, Cebu, Philippines, erected in honor of Datu Lapu-Lapu, a native chieftain who defeated Spanish soldiers, and Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in the Battle of Mactan on 1521.

Wind Turbines
On our way to San Francisco my husband and I were having a discussion about getting some wedding accessories for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary next month, and all in a sudden we passed these wind turbines that caught my attention. It is pretty amazing! There are tons of them. This place is located at Altamount Pass, Livermore, California, USA. It is about one hour drive south east of San Francisco, right on the hills off the sides of highway 580. It is a splendid place, but kinda eerie. What is wind turbine by the way?
According to wikipedia, wind turbine is a rotating machine which converts the kinetic energy of wind into mechanical energy. If the mechanical energy is used directly by machinery, such as a pump or grinding stones, the machine is usually called a windmill. If the mechanical energy is instead converted to electricity, the machine is called a wind generator, wind turbine, wind power unit (WPU), wind energy converter (WEC), or aerogenerator.
The turbines form lines scattered on the hilltops, scattered around an area of about 15 kilometers in diameter. Hundreds are visible from the highway. The wind farm is composed of over 4900 relatively small wind turbines of various types, making it at one time the largest farm in the world in terms of capacity. Altamont Pass is still the largest concentration of wind turbines in the world, with a capacity of 576 megawatts (MW), producing about 125 MW on average and 1.1 terawatt-hours (TWh) yearly.
The small turbines are dangerous to various raptors that hunt California Ground Squirrels in the area. 1300 raptors are killed annually. Among them are 70 golden eagles that are federally protected. In total, 4700 birds are killed annually.

Duo Design - Polish Acrobats
Photos were taken when we went to Las Vegas a few years ago. We saw these two Polish guys performing a free show in Circus Circus Hotel. They gave an amazing performance! Duo Design is the name of the group. It is a dynamic and exciting strength and hand-balancing act from Warsaw, Poland. Duo Design consist of Jaroslaw Marciniak and Dariusz Wronski, former Polish national hand-balancing champions. They have competed and performed throughout Europe and the United States, winning championships in Evian, France and Sarasota, Florida.
Over the past few years, these prolific performers have thrilled audiences from coast to coast. Duo Design has performed at several NBA halftimes, Circus Circus in Reno and Las Vegas, Busch Gardens in Tampa Florida, and many more.
Here's a video I found in youtube, I thought of sharing it here on my blog.
I want to greet everyone a very Merry Christmas! I would like to thank all my friends who sent a postcard this year. Thanks a lot guys!

The Story of Gingerbread
Here's our first gingerbread house. Hubby assembled the bread, I did the house frosting, and Akesha did all the decorations.
If you're wondering where ginger bread house originally started, well here's the scope.
Most early immigrants to North America came from Europe, therefore most customs are from European origin.
Gingerbread is traced to Europe back to the 11th century. Crusader returning from the Middle East and brought back among other items a spice -- ginger. Soon after, different varieties of gingerbread appeared throughout western Europe. The variations varied widely from sweet, dark, spicy, soft or crusty, the only common characteristic was the ginger spice.
Gingerbread, the name comes from the Latin word "Zingebar", and was not used until the 15th century. By that time, gingerbread gained great popularity, especially in Germany and France. Bakers in both countries formed their own guilds, which gave them exclusive rights to make and sell the bread. However, a law was formed which prohibits them to produce gingerbread at Eastern and Christmas ("Government Red Tape" was well established). This law was eliminated in the 16th century, because of the popularity and favorite attraction of Gingerbread Bakers at market places, were gingerbread was freshly baked. Gingerbread gained such popularity at the already famous "Christkindlesmarket", in Nuremberg, Germany, that it was called the "Gingerbread Capital of the World".
The first gingerbread houses were made in Germany. Children story writer, Brothers Grimm, made them famous in the very popular fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel". The story featured a gingerbread house, which was called "HexenhƤuschen", (Witch House. The story goes, ...in which two lost children came upon and nibbled on the sweet gingerbread house, the evil witch caught and imprisoned them).

The representative of Guinness World Records,Carlos Martinez, certified the new record at Glorieta de la Palma, located on the Paseo de la Reforma, where the huge tree stands and will continue to be displayed for 36 days.
