Black & White

I can't believe it's almost May. Oh my, time passes very quickly! Anyhow, this week's theme for Mommy Moments is "Black and White". I thought of posting some black and white photos, but I changed my mind...lol! Instead, I posted some of our "black and white" wardrobe.
Our 2009 Family picture. We always have our family picture taken during November-Decemeber time frame. Right on time for our yearly newsletter.
These photos were taken last year in California. My FIL celebrated his 90th birthday last December,2010. We flew over there to attend his BIG party celebration.
And of course, our humble living room.
This is my entry for Mommy Moments.

Review: Lovely Baby & Mommy CD

My family loves music. Listening and dancing to music is part of our Saturday morning activity. I found a great quote online that says “Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul.”

Anyway, I received a FREE CD to review from Lovely Baby CD. The CD is basically a collection of ten songs that celebrates the importance of motherhood, and their integral role in their baby’s development. My husband and I like the instrumental and lyrics of each song. It’s simple and quiet, but what we don’t like about it is the baby’s high pitched voice. We thought it was kind of annoying. However, my 5 year old seems to like the CD. She played it a few times. It was created by award-winning composer and international baby music expert, Raimond Lap, Lovely Baby is the only original music series in the world specifically created for babies, ages prenatal to 36 months.

If you would like to purchase the Lovely Baby & Mommy CD, you should check out their website today for details.

Orange

Our previous house in California has tons of fruit trees in the backyard. Apples, pears, grapes, lemons, oranges and more. I miss having a huge backyard.
Fresh citrus fruits.
Freshly made orange juice. My daughter made it, I just added the final touch for picture purposes....lol!

Outdoor Adventures

There is an interesting story in Canada about the outdoor adventures company that you should read about. Apparently, a hundred sled dogs were killed to cut costs after the Olympics. The owner of this company Joey Houssian has already had a number of media interviews where he discussed how his company didn't know anything about the slaughter of these animals. He talks about many of the discrepancies in the employee's testimony concerning the killing of these dogs. You should checkout their website to learn more about this story. It is always good to learn the facts about a story before coming to an opinion.

Easter Celebration

One of our many traditions each year is to color eggs for Easter. We started doing this tradition since Akesha was one year old.
Coloring eggs is FUN, messy but it's fun! We colored eggs last Friday.
Hubby and Akesha dyed their eggs. Four of these eggs are handcrafted by yours truly...lol!
After we came home from church, Akesha opened her Easter basket from us. She was delighted when she saw it. How about you? How's your easter celebration went?

Rainbow Colors

This week's Mommy Moments theme is "Rainbow Colors". Here are some of the latest rainbow color pictures we have. Photos were taken during the Fiesta Parade last April 16.
Akesha wore a rainbow shirt. It was given by her tita Rose of Nostalgic Marveling years ago.
The parade was the longest parade I've ever been to in the US.
It was a fun night.
I believe there are more than 3.5 million people took part in the Fiesta Parade.
We are looking forward to join again next year.

High School Friends

I'm very thankful for the good high school experience I've had. I've never been considered an "outcast" or a "loner" in my life. I always have set of friends growing up.
2002 beach gathering....some of my HS friends.
I have a lot of close friends in high school compare to elementary and college. Seriously, when we all hang out together, we have to hire 2-3 jeepneys to take us places. I miss being with them. Too bad, I live far far away.
2007 beach gathering...some of my HS friends.
The last time I saw some of my high school friends was when we went to visit the PI for the first time. I believe it was year 2007. We supposed to meet up with them last 2010 but we missed the whole plan. I'm hoping  to seem them soon. I'll make it up!

Promotion of Healthy Eating: Organic Food

In terms of nutrition, organic food has undergone a lot of promotion and has been considered superior by its followers. Studies have shown conflicting results regarding the value of organic food in comparison to conventional food; however, because of the way organic food is prepared, organic food is expected to have less residual pesticide content.
In terms of caloric value, organic food and conventional food usually have the same caloric content per weight. Some studies show same amounts of vitamin C, potassium, calcium, and other substances in organic and conventional food.
Other studies, on the other hand, show about twenty-five percent higher antioxidants in organic food. Polyphenol content is also higher in organic food.
Polyphenols play a role in fighting cancer and heart disease. Some polyphenols have been proven to reduce blood vessel damage due to oxidant activity; this means that polyphenols may help reduce atherosclerosis, clogged arteries, coronary artery disease, and stroke. Antioxidants have also been proven to reduce damage to tissues and promote healing.
A more recent study shows that intake of organic food immediately decreased the organophosphate levels in the urine of twenty-three children. This proves that conventional food is a major source of organophosphates. Organic food therefore plays a role in reducing organophosphate-related health problems, especially in children.
Organic produce may also taste better. Studies indicate that apples from organic farms are sweeter and firmer than conventional apples.
Unlike conventional food, organic food uses minimal preservatives; it therefore spoils much easier. Conventional food is preserved longer; unfortunately, valuable vitamins disappear even as conventional food remains fresh. On the other hand, organic food is always expected to be rich in vitamins.
By consuming organic food, people are exposed to fewer amounts of harmful organophosphate pesticides. Advocating organic food also reduces the harmful effects of organophosphates on the environment; organic farming produces fewer amounts of greenhouse gases as compared to conventional farming.
Organic food comes with many promising attributes. Perhaps the future of food lies in the past; going back to organic farming is indeed making one step forward.

Navy

My husband was active duty in the Navy before. He was stationed in various places such as Guam, Saipan, Hawaii, and etc. He transferred in the US Air Force Reserve after 6 years of serving the Navy as a plane captain.
He will soon retire from the Military. We already received some of his retirement documents and other classified stuff.
Here are some of his Navy badges. I am planning to frame them including his Air Force badges. This is my entry for this week's ABC Wednesday, letter N. N is for the Navy.

Birthday Cakes

My daughter turned 5 years old last Friday, April 15. I can't believe how fast time flies. She'll be in kindergarten soon. Thinking about it made me anxious. Anyhow, she loved her puppy cake that we bought for her on her birthday.

We also bought a german chocolate cake. Want some? We still have a few slices left...lol!

Thanks to those who came by and left a birthday greetings. Much appreciated!

Friendship Bracelet

Looking at this bracelet brings back a lot of memories. This is the bracelet I gave to hubby during our first meeting. It's a welcome/friendship bracelet. Simple yet very meaningful.
Hubby and I met as friends. So in short, there's no strings attached. Honestly, I don't even want to meet him in the beginning. I guess I was not ready at that time, but destiny will always find a way.
We met on August 19, 2004 in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines. A few days after getting know each other, we found out that we're in love. Ayay!  You can call it  "instant love affair" not instant noodles...lol! I got my first kiss on that day. I was totally shy because I've never kissed a guy before....lol!

Monkey Jockeys

Banana Derby "America's Favorite Monkey Jockeys". Have you ever seen them before? Oh, boy! They are the cutiest monkey I have ever seen. We saw them last Thursday during our visit to the Fiesta Carnival here in San Antonio.
They're very entertaining. You will laugh out loud when you see monkeys riding dogs. Very funny!
Play the video to see how they perform.

Fiesta Carnival

How's your weekend everyone? Our weekend went on as planned. Last Saturday was a busy day. We took a half day shopping for cars, and finally I got my ride! Sunday morning we went to church, stopped by at Walmart to get a cane pole, went home, and went fishing on the afternoon. How about you?
Sharing some photos I took last Thursday night at the Fiesta Carnival.
Akesha did great this time. She's not too scared anymore to ride. Great job, Akesh!
Hubby went on this one. Akesha and I would love to ride this one too, but she's too small for this ride.

Summer Plans

Summer plans is the theme for this week's Mommy Moments. So summer plans it is! This summer we are going to enroll Akesha to a swimming lesson again. She did pretty good last year. And we are hoping she will do even better this year.
Since we love to take a vacation each year, we are heading to gulf coast this summer. Usually we take 2-3 weeks, but this time is different. I'm sure 5 days of fun is good enough. I'm so excited about our upcoming trip. Just by thinking about it makes me jump up and down...lol! Plane tickets and hotel accommodation is  done. I just can't wait! It's a surprise getaway...lol!
We will be staying in this hotel.

Trip To Reno

It's another Nostalgia episode once again. Thanks to the gorgeous and sexy looking author of Nostalgic Marveling for hosting this meme.
It was year 2007 when hubby took me and Akesha to Reno for the first time on a 3-day weekend getaway. We drove a few hours from California to get to Reno, Nevada. Akesha was 18 months old at that time.
We did not go there to gamble, we went there to watch some entertainment shows. This petite lady is amazing! I was speechless when I saw her performed. She's great. This was taken at the Circus Circus Hotel.
We stayed for 2 nights at Sans Regency Casino Hotel, one of the tallest hotels you can find in Reno. We had a really nice view from our room. We're on the 11th floor.
Akesha's Reno shirt.
One thing I love to do when we travel is shopping! Shopping for souvenirs is fun! It has been our tradition to buy shirts when we travel places.

Shopping at Lowes

We went to Lowes after the church service last Sunday. We grabbed some gardening stuff and other backyard tools. Akesha was on the mood to help me chose the plants.I think hubby spent a hundred bucks for the plants alone....too pricey! I can get them for free in the Philippines...lol!
We also bought some Light bulbs for our Lamp shade.

Lackland Air Force Base

Sharing you some photos I took around Lackland Air Force Base.
These photos were taken last weekend.
We like to drive around the base before we go grocery shopping at the commissary.
I always have a high respect to see people in uniform. Almost there guys!
Boot camp drills.
